Pandora´s Box 3.0

André on 2. November 2007 at 11:48 am

You might have read my post about the webservice Pandora. But no, this article does not have anything to do with it. Actually, it´s quite the opposite.
I´d rather like to get back to the roots of the term “Pandora´s box”. As you propably know the first women on earth, Pandora, put all evil things in a tiny box and stored it ready to rock the world when it gets opened.

Well, it seems the day is getting closer and closer when Pandora´s box will be opened, or did it already happend?

BOOM! Flex goes Open Source!

André on 26. April 2007 at 4:14 pm

Well, after the announcement about the cooperation with Mozilla I thought nothing could surprise me,
but then I read today´s press release and the OpenSource Flex FAQ.

Man I can´t wait to take on the Java AS Compiler and play around with it, think about the possibilities,….
I won´t go ahead with uninteresting blabla here, just check out this podcast clip directly from t3h source y0!

Too bad they don´t release the Flex Builder as well ;)

flash.geom.Matrix.invert(pandoras_box)

André on 24. January 2007 at 1:28 pm

Well, I guess that would not compile, but it pretty good explains the online music service Pandora.com. Unlike Finetune Pandora lets you select an artist or song from your favorite music genre and they will come up with a playlist that suits your music taste pretty well, at least in most cases. You also have the chance to finetune a Station by voting songs “Thumbs Up” or “Thumbs Down” and they´ll adopt your playlist.

So why am I bloggin´ about that? Well, I am a guy that needs music to work, but also someone that has a very limited music library, since my taste in music is rather limited. Especially on occasions like my upcoming birthday party there is not much to choose from for my guests. Well Pandora finally enables me to serve the music they want to hear instead forcing them to hear the music I like ;)

So, if you don´t know Pandora already I strongly suggest you to check it out!

AGo’s Tools available

André on 6. January 2007 at 9:16 pm

I´ve created a little library that adds a few commands to SWF Studio which I´ve missed at least once ;)

Currently there are only commands to move and resize other windows and find their window handle as well as the lovhated “sleep” command, for what it´s worth… You can find it under “SWF Studio projects” to your right.

If you would like to have a specific functionality added let me know!

Celebrate the Day!

André on 3. January 2007 at 9:55 pm

You might know that phrase from the english version of the Fifa World Cup anthem. Well, the translated german title would be “Time that something moves” which is probably much better suited for my current situation ;)

The new page theme was inspired by another song by Grönemeyer, called “Bleibt alles anders”. This song is all about changes in life and what happens if you do not move forward. Well, I´m currently also in a situation where many things are moving in my private situation. I´m facing the now fith chance to get my damn exercise proof in linear algebra on friday, so hopefully I´ll pass it this time.

But there is also some movement in my Flash projects going on. I´m currently working on a from-scratch rewrite of the SQLite Connector for SWF Studio, as well as a few other modules and enhancements for the AutoBuilder. There´s some other interesting stuff coming, but it´s too early to talk about that in public yet.

So dear Flashcoders, I wish all of you a great 2007 and celebrate the day!

I´m now an offical Pro! Well, I guess… ;)

I´ve just returned from the Fachhochschule Aachen
where an Pearson Test Center is located and I passed the
Adobe/Macromedia Certified Flash Developer Exam with 86% :)

So what does that now means for me?
Should I add 200% to my wages?
Should I start sending out my CV to the major companies?
Should I abort my Computer Sciene Diploma?

Well, probably not. We´ll see what time brings ;)

FP9 for Linux is here!

André on 19. October 2006 at 1:40 pm

Yeah!

Mike and his great team did it!

The first public beta of the FP9 FOR LINUX is out on the Labs!

After a first quick test on my Ubuntu it seems to work fine, however more tests are to come.

Can´t wait to get my Ubuntu running as I would like it to and play around with the new player!

FlashDevelop 2 Final released!

André on 12. October 2006 at 6:09 pm

In case some of you missed it, FlashDevelop 2 was finally released!

For those of you who do not know anything about FD, it is an great editor for ActionScript 2 and 3 files,
and comes with plenty of usefull features such as code completition for AS2 and 3/MXML, MTASC/SWFmill integration, automated documentation generation and many cool features more.

I used it since its first beta and I´ve never missed a feature, kudos to Mika and his team!

AutoBuilder now available!

André on 4. October 2006 at 12:43 am

Finally the all-new AutoBuilder is available!
For those of you who do not know the AutoBuilder yet, it is a little tool that streamlines your SWF Studio workflow.
It will monitor your SWF (or any other) file for changes and then starts the SWF Studio build.
Now there was already an AutoBuilder that did exact the same thing more than a year ago, so why do you call it all-new?
Because there are some great new features in there!

Hello World!

André on 4. October 2006 at 12:18 am

Let me borrow the first words from a well-known Flashcoder,..

I’ve done it! I’ve decided to deactivate lurker mode and become a contributing part of the Flash community. This is the first post of many to come.

Well, couldn´t have said any better Jeff ;)

I´ve been around the Flashcoder´s world for some years now, and learned a lot from many ressources and forums, but never had the chance to give anything back.

During the past year I´ve been quite active at the Northcode forums, and even recieved my own litte corner there.
Last year I have started a small bussiness and focused on Flash and PHP development. However I´m still a fulltime student,
and it is only a rumour that students have too much free time,…

So, the main intention of this blog is to show some of my Flash and SWF Studio projects, but I won´t reprieve you with some rant about my university ;)

That´s it for the moment, stay tuned!
